In the combat against black grass, the latest drill to join the RC Baker Ltd fleet is the John Deere 750A.
This year we have invested in a new John Deere 750A direct drill after having one on demo last autumn. Whilst on demo, we planted some Maluka wheat into cultivated ground as a trial to see the difference between the John Deere and our Vaderstaad Rapid 6m Drill. We were very impressed with the capabilities of the 750A drill as it appeared to cause less disturbance to the stale seedbed and where there were any undulations in the field it followed the ground better and kept the seed depth more consistent. We are already seeing the benefits of this drill with the emerging crop appearing more evenly and consistently with very little to no black grass visible. The plan is to run the 750A Drill alongside our existing drills; the Claydon 6m Hybrid, Vaderstaad Rapid 6m and the Gaspardo 8m MTR Precision Drill. With this collection of sophisticated machinery, we can take care of drilling anything from wild flower HLS and ELS margins, grass seeds and cereals to beans and maize.
